Wenger's side had previously suffered 6-3 and 5-1 defeats at the hands of Man City and Liverpool respectively...Now Chelsea nearly spelt Arsenal with a 6-0 annihilation.

Nobody could have predicted such a disaster for Arsenal on the day they were supposed to be celebrating the impact of Arsene Wenger on his 1000th game in charge of the club.

The game lurched between the catastrophic and the unfathomable for the 3,000 Gunners fans who watched their side slump to an embarrassing defeat that makes a mockery of their title aspirations.

The game was over after 17 minutes, by which stage Chelsea were 3-0 up thanks to goals from Samuel Eto’o, Andre Schurrle and a penalty from Eden Hazard.

Much of the post-match attention will focus on the unforgivable decision of referee Andre Marriner to send off Kieran Gibbs rather than Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for handling the ball in the penalty area.

But that should not disguise from another Arsenal surrender after similar experiences away at Manchester City and Liverpool this season.

And Jose Mourinho rammed home his famous 'specialist in failure' jibe about Wenger as Oscar’s double was followed by Mohamed Salah’s first goal for Chelsea to complete the rout.
