Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois showed just why Atletico Madrid are so keen to keep him with a brilliant showing that takes his team into next week’s second leg against Barcelona as favourites to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
The Belgian goalkeeper pulled off three brilliant late saves as Barcelona came back from a goal down in the Camp Nou but could not force a winner against Diego Simeone’s side.
Barcelona struggled to beat Courtois and, with his goal under siege in the final stages, the 21-year-old held firm making dramatic saves from Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi.
The game came alive in the last half hour after Diego had put Atletico Madrid ahead with a shot from 30 yards and Neymar had pulled a goal back for Barcelona.
